Agrotrack

IoT and geofencing platform preventing agricultural grazing boundary conflicts

Description
Agrotrack is an agritech hardware and cloud solution created to de-escalate pastoralist-farmer clashes across sub-Saharan Africa. It utilizes GPS collar nodes and virtual polygon geofences to warn farmers and livestock owners before boundary transgressions occur.

Core Features Implemented

  • Virtual Polygon Geofence Engine: Interactive map interface allowing farmers and herders to draw custom geographic boundaries with real-time breach alerts
  • GPS Collar Telemetry Hardware: Solar-assisted collar hardware running low-power firmware transmitting coordinate beacons via LoRaWAN/GSM
  • Multilingual SMS / USSD Emergency Dispatch: Instant boundary breach warnings transmitted via SMS and USSD to feature phones without internet access
  • Historical Grazing Path Analytics: Trajectory visualization mapping seasonal cattle movements to prevent land conflict hotspots

System Architecture

  • Low-power microcontrollers (ESP32/LoRa) running sleep-cycle telemetry firmware with solar battery charging
  • PostGIS database executing spatial point-in-polygon queries at sub-second intervals
  • WebSocket streaming dashboard showing real-time herd coordinate trajectories on Leaflet map layers
  • Resilient Twilio SMS and USSD gateway with automated failover routing for remote rural zones
