i-love-dark-mood

High-performance PDF dark mode converter preserving selectable text layers

Description
Most PDF dark mode tools simply invert the canvas into raster images, causing massive file bloating and destroying text selection. i-love-dark-mood directly modifies PDF vector streams to invert luminance while preserving sharp fonts and low memory footprints.

Core Features Implemented

  • True Vector Stream Color Inversion: Rewrites PDF RGB/CMYK stream operators without converting documents to raster images, preserving 100% vector sharpness
  • Selectable & Searchable Text Preservation: Retains full text layer integrity, allowing copying, highlighting, and search indexing after inversion
  • Zero File Bloat Transformation: Maintains identical file size to original documents (unlike raster converters that inflate files up to 10x)
  • Client-Side Drag & Drop Processing: Fully local processing capability with zero server retention for complete document privacy

System Architecture

  • Low-level PDF stream parser directly manipulating raw PDF color dictionaries and content streams
  • Non-destructive color transformation avoiding vector-to-bitmap rasterization overhead
  • Rust-compiled WebAssembly and Python backend pipeline optimizing multi-hundred-page processing in sub-second intervals
  • Dockerized microservice architecture with stream buffering for handling large corporate manuals
